I Spy!

We played several rounds of I Spy on a road trip yesterday. Lee tends to make it a little more difficult. Instead of a color or an object, his are more of a riddle. He saw Burger King and said "I spy the queen's husband". Without hesitation, Sean blurted out with all seriousness "You! I spy..." Lee and I just looked at each questionably and then burst out laughing.

A Woman in Search of Her Keys

Last night I was able to attend a Healthy Woman event hosted by our local hospital. Lisa Smartt was the keynote speaker. Some of you know her from their time in Nacogodoches, Lufkin, College Station or through her husband Philip. I happened to see her picture in a newsletter I received in the mail and was so excited to see she was coming to our town. She spoke on "Hope for Women Who Can't Find Their Keys: Confessions of an Imperfect Woman". She was HILARIOUS! I have always adored this woman and what an inspirational speaker she is. She also wrote her first book The Smartt View: Life, Love, and Cluttered Closets. I had the opportunity to eat dinner with her and her sweet mother gave me the door prize she won - a 1 hour massage. What an evening. I also bought three books! You can find out more about Lisa on her website and to see if she is coming to an event near you .

Trains!

We have found the BEST model train exhibit at a garden nearby. At least 5 different trains are running at once. You are able to walk under the trestles and over the bridges as well as inside the "station". The gardens are also nice but pale in comparison to the exhibit - at least to Sean.


Our friends met us at the garden for a morning of train watching last week.

Ahoy!

We had such a FUN time at Sean's birthday party last night. We didn't even know that yesterday was "Talk Like A Pirate" Day! The party included a treasure dig, mark the "x" on the spot (aka pin the tail on the donkey), walk the plank, zip line and swing rides, a treasure chest pinata, and playing in the pirate ship. My cute nephew, Orson.

Where I Was When You Called

Yesterday we had several calls from family wanting to wish Sean a happy birthday. This is where he spent the evening. Thanks to Ms. Vicki, Lee and Sean had great seats behind 3rd plate at the Rangers vs. Tigers game. He made it through the entire game, plus autographs afterwards. Today, he is one happy but tired six year old. Another sweet coworker made a sign especially for Sean. He was hoping he'd make it on TV.

about this picture. I'm sure Cari or Christina can help me out. However, Sean liked the girl behind him because she reminded him of Christina :)

I can't believe our boy is 6 today!

The Damage

My friend Jamie's blog has pictures of my mom and Glen's damage from Hurricane Ike. Her house is marked Karon. Luckily, they only lost a couple of trees. Other homes in the neighborhood were severely damaged. Jamie's second entry describes what they went through.

Creativity

A neighbor's recliner box, old t-shirts, pvc pipe, paper towel rolls,

string, a washer and dryer box, and one clever husband/son duo...Voila - a pirate ship
I have pictures also of what it looks like after it was spray painted but I'll wait to share after the actual party. As of now, due to inclement weather predicted by Hurricane Ike, Sean's pirate birthday party is on hold...not cancelled but postponed (I've said this many times today).

Please pray for friends, my folks' house, the church I grew up in, etc...all in Galveston County.

I removed my playlist because Lee told me that the Dan F. song played a bunch of curse words. There must be some kind of trickery involved because it is fine on my end. Has anyone else experienced this?

Huntin' Dog

For two days, Sean has been trying to teach Gracie how to fetch

what he shoots with the rubber band gun.Note the sweatshirt and gloves -

it is 70 degrees this morning.

This is the same dog who didn't really accept Sean as being a part of the family until last year.The treats in his pocket helped.
