Pregnancy Symptoms?

I’m in my 18th week of pregnancy and obviously have had some challenges in the emotional, social, and mental areas of my life. Here are some clues that maybe helpful to others:
• You cry in the movie “How to Train Your Dragon”

• You look cuter in your friend’s pregnancy clothes than in your own pre-pregnancy clothes, so you box up a majority of your clothes to send to a charity

• An acquaintance approaches you while you are waiting at a crowded restaurant. They say “Congratulations!” You are not making eye contact so when the next thing they say is “How long have you been waiting?”, you pipe up with “Six years!”. While the people around you are laughing, your husband quickly comes to your rescue with “About 15 minutes, but it seems like six years.” You think, maybe I should be embarrassed and it quickly fades to when can we eat.

• You are the human garbage disposal at the end of meals….and don’t care.

• And last but not least…you starch three rooms of furniture. Little signals are going off in your head like “hmm, gold cap” or “odd smell” or “maybe I should iron”. You set up the ironing board, plug in the iron, and go to grab the starch but grab the furniture polish instead. Then you yell “*@#$!” You then remember your Lenten Bible verse that you have been failing at miserably “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth…” You realize it is time to sit down and prop your feet up.  While sitting, you realize that the reason why the starch didn't harm the furniture was that the dust layer was probably thick enough not to penetrate and cause damage. And then, you take a deep sigh.

Family Weekend

We took a long weekend and headed to the Hill Country.  On Friday, the weather was in the upper 70s and Sean even jumped into the pool at the place we were staying.  However, he quickly swam to the other side and jumped out.  That evening a cold front came through and the highs were in the 40s.
We stopped to take a photo of the World's Largest Cedar Rocker,
eat some great bbq, and drink cream soda and root beer from bottles.

A view of Lake Buchanan from our room

Since it was so cold, we decided not to do the hike we planned.  Instead,  we toured Longhorn Caverns - it was worth it.  Here is a picture of a hibernating Eastern Pipistrel (small bat).

Earlier This Week

Sean and I headed to East Texas to spend part of Spring Break with family.  We had a great time with all the kids and grandparents.  We were also able to enjoy visiting with friends.  The time flew by.

From the Weekend

Lee kicked off Spring Break by taking Sean and our nephew, Orson, to the deer lease over the weekend.  They looked for sheds, practiced shooting their bb guns, ate lots of junk food and hiked for miles.  A great time was had by all three.

Thoughts for Thursday

Yet, O Lord, you are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.

Our Latest Field Trip

Last Thursday was Homeschool Day at the Zoo.  We went to a presentation on the difference between reptiles and amphibians and live animals were brought out for the kids to see.  There were zookeeper chats at different animal areas throughout the day.  We were also there for a sneak preview of the new reptile and amphibian exhibit....it is huge!

This Little Piggie

This past weekend, Lee and some of his friends met in East Texas for their second annual hog hunt.  The tournament has some fancy name that they made up and there are prizes involved.  Needless to say, he had an awesome weekend.  This particular story he told was worth sharing.  He was sitting in his stand near dark and he saw a little pig in the distance walking his way.  He said at first it almost looked like Wilbur from Charlotte's Web.  He took the shot from about 250 yards away, saw it drop, and then proceeded to shoot two other hogs.

It was dark when he was getting down from his stand, so he took his handgun and flashlight.  As he was walking, he was winding his flashlight (the kind without batteries) and he heard the pig (that he thought was dead) making angry grunts in the brush.  Since it was a little pig, he wasn't really concerned. He had radioed for the other guys to help him come find the three pigs in the dark.  His friend James had a spotlight so he and Lee crawled on their hands and knees through a pine thicket in the dark in search of the wounded pig.  After some time passed, they heard the angry pig turn on them and charge them from 5 yards away.  James hollered "THAT IS NOT A LITTLE PIG!!!!" and Lee had to shoot it twice in the head while on his hands and knees.

Lee didn't win the trophy cup for the largest pig - Glen killed a 248 pound hog, but Lee did win the prize for overall pounds.  He says we will be eating "high on the hog" for sometime.
Lee's little piggie - a Russian Red - weighing in at 177 pounds
