A Recent Outing

On Friday, we made a trip to the Log Cabin Village.
There were interpreters who taught us about candle making, wheat harvesting, being a blacksmith, and much more regarding life in the 1800s.

Sean was able to grind coffee and pump water.

Thoughts for Thursday

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return to it without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and
achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Aloha!

My birthday was on Wednesday. On Sunday, when I picked Sean up from Sunday School, his teacher said "Sean tells me ya'll have big plans on Wednesday." With a stern face and a tone Sean replied "I did not." Oops, her bad. On Wednesday, all day Sean told me that it was not my birthday and when a relative called, he nearly hung up on her when he told her to call back the next day. It was all his attempt to surprise me that night when his dad came home. When he arrived, they sent me to my room for an hour while they "talked." In one hours time, the backyard was decorated with balloons, tiki torches, straw skirts, streamers, etc., and my neighbors were on the porch.Ms. Nora and Mr. Tom joined in the fun.

Lee whipped up some fruit k-bobs, fried spam (that's right), ham slices,
tropical dried fruit, fruit cocktail and Hawaiian punch.
This is the same man who eats pringles and water
when I'm out of town so this was huge!

My son picked out a music card that said on the front " A long, long time ago...
(cue the Star Wars theme song) you were born."

I thought I turned 39 however there were 50 candles on the cake. There was a little miscommunication between Lee and Sean.

I'm So Proud

In a contest at work to benefit a charity,
my talented hubby ate 8 doughnuts in roughly 4 minutes.
The challenge was to eat 12 doughnuts in 10 minutes.
The original contestant was able to eat 4 in 6 minutes and
Lee was called on as a "life line" to finish the task. Using his cleverness, he pounded them all together before eating
them all at once as a doughnut sandwich. They were victorious.
From what I understand, the onlookers were astonished,
bewildered, and grossed out.

I'm so proud!

Thoughts for Thursday

You are the light of the world.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and
it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before men,
that they may see your good deeds
and praise your Father in heaven.

New Crop

After Christmas, Sean tried out his new slingshot using corn kernels. Now we have about 10 corn plants growing in the backyard. We shall see if they produce anything.

Last Night

Last night was the Awana's Award Ceremony.
Sean earned his ribbon for completing the Hiker book (49 sections with 56 Bible verses).

Thoughts for Thursday

...but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31

Another Life Lesson

Never kick hot ashes while wearing rubber shoes
with holes in the toe!
The same child who kicked a cactus last fall did this neat trick today.
With prescription ointment and gauze, his foot will be neatly wrapped for a few days.

Recap

Last week we spent the first three days in East Texas with Sean's Nana and Poppy while Lee was traveling with work. We enjoyed our visit with family and friends.

Nana and Sean

Early Thursday morning we headed to Homeschool Day at Six Flags - which was "totally awesome". Hopefully we will attend again next year. We took one of Sean's good friends with us. Towards the end of the day, there was not a line for the "Batman" roller coaster. Lee encouraged me to go ride it since he'd just gotten back and was beaming from the thrill of it. I must admit I was a bit apprehensive but since there was no wait, I didn't have much time to dwell on it. Needless to say, I screamed the entire way "AHHHH and OH-MY-GOODNESS!!!!" with my eyes tightly shut on the loop-d-loops. My throat hurt when I got off and Lee asked if I was okay when I returned. I thought possibly my brain and eyes had detached but he assured me they had not. I pretty much was done after the "thrill" ride. The boy with us said that he knew when I was riding the roller coaster because he could hear me screaming (from across the park mind you) and he knew what it sounded like because he heard me earlier - on the kiddie rides.

Friday and Saturday were spent at the Homeschool Conference. I bought all of our curriculum and enjoyed the speakers and hanging out with friends. While in the parking lot (which is next to Six Flags), I could hear screams of nearby roller coaster riders and believed that Sean's friend might have been telling the truth.

I awoke Sunday morning to streamers and balloons, homemade cards, breakfast and a new reading lamp. We headed east for the day to spend time with Lee's mom, sister and her family. We had a great time over the past three weeks but I think we were all ready to get back to our routine :)

Thoughts for Thursday

David said to Goliath,
"You come against me with sword and spear and javelin,
but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty..."All those gathered here will know
that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves;
for the battle is the Lord's...

On The Road Again

We have just been traveling fools.
Last week, we headed south to spend time with my folks,
aunt and uncle, and my sister, Emily.
On our last day, we enjoyed the annual Strawberry Festival. Sean and his friend Darren hung out at the festival.

My Aunt Kathy and sister Emily were recruited
to serve strawberry shortcakes.

Glen and my Uncle Clayton also volunteered.

And on Sean's third attempt, he dunked the cheerleader.
He was so happy. He's always wanted to try that since reading a Curious George book.
